Anderton, who spent most of his career at Spurs, believes the Premier League club is doing well.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Darren Anderton has spoken out in support of how the club is currently doing, believing it is “right where it needs to be” and suggesting it is only a matter of time before Spurs’ trophy drought comes to an end.
Mauricio Pochettino’s charges have challenged for the Premier League title over the past few seasons, famously pushing Leicester City close in 2015-16, but as of yet it has eluded them, likewise in the FA Cup and League Cup.
In the Champions League, Tottenham have made progress over the past few years, now often making the knockout stages, and this term they are in the semi-finals, where they will head to Ajax in the second leg hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
Likewise, Spurs still have some work to do in order to secure a top four place in the league table, with Arsenal and Manchester United still capable of leapfrogging them into the Champions League spots.
Even though there has been criticism from some quarters regarding Pochettino having failed to deliver a trophy for Tottenham despite being at the helm of the team for the past five years, Anderton is adamant that, even though the rubber-stamp in the shape of silverware is not yet there, progress certainly has been made.

“The club is right where it needs to be – challenging,” Anderton told the official Tottenham site. “That’s what we’re doing. I heard the manager’s comments this week and it was so well put, it’s not about winning one trophy, it’s about challenging for them all, every season. Look, Leicester did amazingly when they won the title in 2015-16 but we have stayed up there, continued to be consistently one of the top teams. Only City have done better than us over that period, how amazing is that?
“Of course, we all want to see a trophy, we all want to play in finals and what we’re doing at the moment is giving ourselves a chance to make that happen. I don’t believe it’s a case of if it happens, I believe it’s when it happens – and that will be pretty soon. And being in the semi-finals of the Champions League is incredible. That just shows the character of the squad, dealing with lots of injuries yet still up there, still challenging.”
Up next for Tottenham is Saturday’s Premier League early kickoff away at Bournemouth.
