Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign striker Danny Ings this summer, but chose against trying to hijack his move to Aston Villa.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Tottenham could have made an offer to challenge Villa for the striker.

However, Tottenham allegedly chose not to bother due to the size of the fee involved and the wages being offered by Villa.

Fabio Paratici chose to focus on the back line instead, with Emerson Royal joining on deadline day.

Whilst only joining on loan for now, Cristian Romero joined Tottenham just two days after Ings joined Villa.

Just how much would Ings have cost Tottenham?

Villa forked out a huge £30million to sign Ings in August.

Villa paid that considerable price tag despite Ings being inside the final year of his contract with Southampton.

The Athletic added that Ings is earning £120,000-a-week at Villa Park, making him one of their highest-paid players.

£30million plus £6.25million-a-year in wages for a 29-year-old was seemingly too rich for Tottenham’s blood.

Tottenham still don’t have cover for Harry Kane

It’s remarkable that we’re still talking about this.

Kane really burst onto the scene in the 2014-15 season. It’s almost 2022 and Tottenham still haven’t figured out how to add a quality striker to help him.

Vincent Janssen was a flop, Fernando Llorente was passable cover and Carlos Vinicius didn’t really make an impact in the Premier League.

Those are the only senior strikers Tottenham have signed in the era of Kane being their leading man.

Ings would have at least given Tottenham another goal threat, something that Nuno Espirito Santo would love.

Tottenham are struggling for goals right now, and Kane isn’t even off the mark in the Premier League this term.

January is fast approaching, and Tottenham need to finally come up with some striking answers after passing on Ings.
