According to a report by Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham Hotspur were eyeing a loan swoop for Gerard Deulofeu before they hijacked Everton’s attempts to sign Arnaut Danjuma.
While the Villareal loanee has not officially been confirmed as a Spurs signing, Fabrizio Romano’s ‘here we go’ tweet suggests the deal has been completed.
Tottenham wanted Gerard Deulofeu before Arnaut Danjuma loan
It has been reported that before Tottenham swooped in to bring Arnaut Danjuma on loan, they had their sights set on Gerard Deulofeu, who is currently in the form of his life for Udinese.
However, the Serie A side were against the idea of letting their talismanic winger leave in January, who has 6 league assists and 2 goals this season.

The only instance in which Udinese would have allowed the Spaniard, described as a ‘world-class talent’ by Roberto Martinez (via beIN Sports) is if a club signed him on a permanent basis.
But it seems as if Tottenham were considering bringing Deulofeu on loan, which is why they have taken the same approach with Danjuma now.
If Antonio Conte’s side did end up signing the former La Masia talent, they would have hijacked Aston Villa’s £17 million (as per Gazzetta dello Sport) worth pursuit for the player, who Unai Emery personally wanted, according to Foot Mercato
Danjuma instead of Deulofeu is a success for Spurs
While Gerard Deulofeu is enjoying a new lease of life in Italy, it is key to emphasise that for a large part of his career, he has flattered to deceive.
With the Spanish international also set to turn 29 in February, the switch would have been a risk even as a loan deal.
Bringing in a much younger player in Arnaut Danjuma on loan instead of Gerard Deulofeu is a success for Tottenham Hotspur, as he has a lot more upside to his game at this point in his career.
