Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Brennan Johnson could take a hit with Crystal Palace now ready to make a move for the Nottingham Forest ace.

Johnson has been one of the stars of the Championship season having excelled with Nottingham Forest.

The electric winger has racked up nine goals and six assists in 31 games for Forest, terrorising defenders up and down the country.

Even when facing Premier League opposition in Arsenal and Leicester City, Johnson was the star of the show.

Unsurprisingly, a number of Premier League clubs now want to sign Johnson after Forest stood firm and refused to sell in January.

The Sun now claim that Palace are planning to make a move for Johnson this summer, hoping Forest will sell with Johnson approaching the final year of his contract.

Palace have shopped in the Championship for the likes of Nathan Ferguson, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in recent times, so going for Johnson makes sense.

Palace are far from alone in the race for Johnson though, with the 20-year-old attracting major interest.

Tottenham Hotspur recently scouted Johnson ahead of potentially making a bid for the Welsh international this summer.

Tottenham missed out on Luis Diaz to Liverpool in January, and lightning could strike twice with Palace moving for Johnson.

In fact, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has suggested that Johnson is just as good as Diaz, it’s just that the Championship is undervalued by Premier League clubs.

That’s an exciting verdict on Johnson, but Tottenham will need to pull out all the stops if they’re to win this race.

If Johnson continues shining, more and more Premier League clubs will be joining the race – and that would make Fabio Paratici’s job even harder.
