In recent times, football has seen some truly exciting attacking tridents emerge across Europe, one of which hurt Tottenham greatly.

We’ve seen Barcelona put Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi together, while Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah made Spurs suffer in the 2019 Champions League final.

Now, however, Tottenham could soon have their own version of that magnificent Liverpool trio on their hands.

What’s the story?

Well, Tottenham’s phenomenal 3-2 win over Manchester City on Saturday was very interesting to watch from a tactical viewpoint.

In particular, Tottenham’s first goal displayed some very interesting patterns, which should encourage Antonio Conte greatly.

It saw Kane drop deep into something of a false nine role, which Firmino often takes up at Liverpool, and that movement alone was pivotal.

As you can see, Kane draws Aymeric Laporte infield, which opens up space in behind for Heung-min Son to surge towards goal.

Interestingly, Kulusevski also makes a run towards goal, and the pair end up combining to open the scoring.

Interestingly, Son and Kulusevski’s darts in behind were eerily similar to how Mane and Salah exploit space created by Firmino’s movement.

That moment was the best indication that Tottenham could now have a seriously dangerous front three on their hands – if they can do that to Manchester City, they can do it to anyone.

Later in the game, the eye-catching Tottenham trio continued to combine, with Son assisting Kane for his first, while Kulusevski assisted him for the dramatic 94th minute winner.

Son, Kane and Kulusevski can thrive for Tottenham

The more Conte plays Son, Kane and Kulusevski together, the better they will become.

It’s hard to believe the trio played as well as they did against the Citizens, considering it was the first time they’d started together in the Premier League.

They all looked like they’d been playing together for years, and with more games alongside each other, the future is very bright for Spurs.

Will they go on to achieve what Mane, Firmino and Salah have at Anfield? Only time will tell, but the signs are certainly promising.
