Tottenham could now miss out on the signing of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as Lazio prepare to award the midfielder a new contract, with the Serie A side worried about interest from PSG as well as Juventus.
According to CalcioMercto, the European duo are both eyeing a move for the Serbian international in the January transfer window. However, Lazio are desperate to keep hold of Milinkovic-Savic, who this season has been one of the midfielders in Italy, with the Tottenham and PSG target bagging four goals and five assists in all competitions.
Sky Sports reported via Sempre Milan in the summer that Tottenham were ready to pay a club-record £67m for the 27-year-old in the transfer window. However, no deal was ever made, and now the likes of PSG and Juventus are looking to sign Milinkovic-Savic ahead of the January market.
With Milinkovic-Savic’s current deal expiring in 2024, Lazio could still get quite a good fee for Milinkovic-Savic if PSG were to move for the midfielder in the coming months. However, it makes a lot of sense why the Roman club are eager to keep hold of their star player for the years to come.
Indeed, tying Milinkovic-Savic down to a new contract ahead of the midfielder’s participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Serbia could greatly increase his transfer valuation, and whilst Tottenham might not have the capacity to match whatever this figure is, their European rivals PSG will.
An impressive World Cup, as seen in the past, has the potential to balloon a player’s valuation. And Milinkovic-Savic is no exception despite his age, especially if Serbia finally live up to their name as dark horses of the competition this November.

Milinkovic-Savic has been on the verge of leaving Lazio for one of Europe’s biggest sides for what feels like forever. Yet even now with news of the Biancocelesti looking to renew the midfielder’s contract, it still feels like a move to Paris is the most likely outcome for the 27-year-old despite interest from Juventus and Tottenham.
After all, signing for PSG would be a massive career move for Milinkovic-Savic, and with the midfielder in his prime and the French giants actually able to afford the Spanish-born superstar, a transfer in January could well be on the cards if the Serie A star shines in Qatar this winter.
