Tottenham Hotspur could rekindle their interest in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah during the January transfer window.

Trevoh Chalobah has been a long-term target for Tottenham Hotspur and the interest could be revived during the January window.

That is according to Football London, who report that Chelsea will be looking to sell Chalobah in January.

It’s stated that Chalobah has been told that he faces being left out of the Chelsea side for the entire season having refused to leave in August.

A move to Bayern Munich fell through and Chalobah rejected a move to Nottingham Forest, leaving Chelsea frustrated.

Chalobah – currently out injured anyway – has been told that he faces being entirely frozen out by Mauricio Pochettino with Chelsea seemingly unhappy that he rejected an exit.

The report also claims that Tottenham are ‘long-term admirers’ of Chalobah and could make a new move for him in January.

Fabrizio Romano reporting on deadline day that Spurs had made an approach for Chalobah but no deal was done.

Chelsea would no doubt hate to deal with Tottenham given the rivalry between the two clubs.

Yet with a limited number of clubs around who can afford to cough up considerable cash for Chalobah, Chelsea may have to – begrudgingly – explore a deal with Spurs.

Forest seem to have moved on and Tottenham may fancy their chances of a January deal if Chelsea really do want to freeze Chalobah out this season.

Homegrown defender a priority for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will be desperate to land another first-team defender with Eric Dier pretty much frozen out under Ange Postecoglou.

It may be too soon for Ashley Phillips or Alfie Dorrington to shine whilst imminent signing Luka Vuskovic can’t play for Spurs until 2015.

That makes a January signing – who can make an immediate impact – seem like a real priority.

Spurs have already placed a keen focus on homegrown signings with Brennan Johnson and James Maddison arriving.

Look at Tottenham’s other defensive targets in recent weeks; Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly were the key names in the frame.

Chalobah fits a similar mould and, having chased him for so long, Tottenham may well hope that the time is finally right to sign Chalobah.
