Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise transfer deal for Watford striker Troy Deeney, by The Sun.
Deeney is coming off a successful season in the top flight after firing the Hornets to promotion, and in another year, could perhaps have come under consideration for a Euro 2016 place with England.
That is because he was among the top four highest scoring English players in the Premier League in 2015/16, outperforming players picked ahead of him, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, and Marcus Rashford.
| Team | Goals | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane | Tottenham | 25 | 38 |
| Jamie Vardy | Leicester | 24 | 36 |
| Jermain Defoe | Sunderland | 15 | 33 |
| Troy Deeney | Watford | 13 | 38 |
| Dele Alli | Tottenham | 10 | 33 |
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane wins the 2015/16 Barclays Golden Boot Award, scoring 25 goals.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane won the Golden Boot after netting 25 goals, while an ex-Spurs attacker Jermain Defoe netted 15.
If Tottenham sign Deeney, then they will be able to boast they have in their side three of the top five English goalscorers from 2015/16, with Dele Alli reaching double figures in his debut season in the Premier League.
With Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson a regular watching England matches, Deeney’s international claims could also get a big boost with a move to White Hart Lane.
