One big story in the Premier League this season has been the redemption stories of players who have returned from loan spells elsewhere.
Conor Gallagher is now a regular at Chelsea, Anthony Martial is now one of Manchester United’s first-choice attackers, while William Saliba is quickly establishing himself as one of the very best defenders in the Premier League.
With so much excitement around these players, many fans are already looking at who could be the next Saliba and take the Premier League by storm upon their return from loan, and, in our view, the next player of this ilk could be just down the road at Tottenham Hotspur.
Indeed, Destiny Udogie is, once again, lighting up Serie A. He’s scored two goals in his opening four appearances of the season – and he’s doing this from left-back.
Udogie has been one of the best attacking wing-backs in Italy over the past 12 months, but he’s hit another gear this season, while he’s also been a rock at the back.
He’s averaging no fewer than 3.3 tackles per game – a higher tally than any ‘big six’ player this season, while his 1.3 dribbles per game show just how much he likes to get forward too.
Udogie looks like a perfect fit for Antonio Conte’s patented 3-4-3 system, and with another year of development and a pre-season under Conte, he could be ready to take the Premier League by storm next year in the same was Saliba has at Arsenal so far.
At the age of just 19, the Italian very much looks like a star in the making, and if he continues down this path, we may well be talking about one of the best wing-backs on the planet in the near future.
The teenager is certainly a player to keep an eye on for the remainder of this season after a lightning start to the 2022/23 campaign.
