Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderwierled has been linked with a move to Juventus, according to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, and the north London outfit should use the Old Lady’s interest in the Belgian to steal a march on their bitter rivals Arsenal in the chase for Daniele Rugani.

According to the Sun, the Gunners have identified Rugani, 23, as a key summer target, and are lining up a £25 million bid for the Italian.

The Lilywhites would be in a great position to beat Arsenal to the Italy international’s signature, however, what with Juve’s reported interest in Alderweireld.

Daniele Rugani chance of goal for Juventus during the Serie A match between UC Sampdoria and Juventus FC at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on March 19, 2017 in Genoa, Italy.

Tottenham value the 29-year-old at around £50 million, so they should ask the Serie A giants for Rugani plus cash in exchange for the Belgium international.

Good signing for Spurs?

The 23-year-old is an extremely composed and cultured defender. He has plenty of experience, and has learnt from the best during his time with Juventus, with the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli currently ahead of him in the centre-back pecking order in Turin.

Rugani is a ball playing centre-back, and possesses all of the attributes required to be a success in the Premier League.

He could play as part of a three at the back alongside Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, but he is equally apt at playing as part of a flat back four.

The Italian is quick along the ground and is a wonderful reader of the game, and he would undoubtedly be a solid signing for Tottenham.

Alderweireld seems almost certain to leave the Lilywhites this summer, so Spurs should at least ensure that they get another top class centre-back in at the same time.
