Four years ago The Mail claimed Tottenham were eyeing a £5 million swoop on Lascelles, when he was just beginning to establish himself as a Nottingham Forest player.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino had just arrived at the club at the time, and Spurs were reportedly ready to consider loaning Lascelles back to Nottingham Forest.
Lascelles ended up signing with Newcastle United instead, who did loan him back to Forest as part of a double deal with goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
The same tactic worked for Tottenham six months later when they paid £5 million to sign Dele Alli from MK Dons and loaned him back for six months.
Now Spurs could be looking to undo their error in not moving for the centre-back, who has blossomed at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.
It shows how highly he is regarded by Newcastle, that £30 million may not even be enough to land him.
