Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do in the transfer window this summer, and one thing they need is certainly a right-back.
Unfortunately, the London outfit have had an issue at right-back ever since the departure of Kyle Walker.
Indeed, the likes of Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty, Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters have all struggled to fill Walker’s boots since his departure, but they may finally have a competant replacement lined up.
If reports are to be believed, Tottenham are in for Lille right-back Zeki Celik, and it’s fair to say that he looks as though he could be an elite Premier League full-back.
The Turkey international has just won a Ligue 1 title with Lille, and he’s played a key role in their triumph, starting 28 games and earning an average WhoScored rating of 7.00 in the league this term.
Celik is certainly an asset going forward, scoring three times and assisting a further two goals, while he’s also a force to be reckoned with at the back, averaging 2.5 tackles per game and 1.3 interceptions.
Spurs have really struggled to fill Walker’s boots after he was sold to Manchester City, but given Celik’s incredible ability at both ends of the pitch, he could finally act as a competent Walker successor in north London.
Quality right-backs are hard to come by these days, but there’s plenty of gems within this title-winning Lille side, and Celik looks to be one of the picks of the bunch.
Whether or not this deal gets over the line remains to be seen, but if Celik comes in he could be a solid addition at Tottenham.
