Tottenham Hotspur are still chasing Ashley Phillips and the hope is that a deal will be finalised this week.
Blackburn Rovers continue to play hardball over defender Ashley Phillips as Tottenham Hotspur chase a deal.
That is according to The Sun, who claim that Tottenham are keen to bring Phillips to North London.
A deal for the teenager was expected to go through earlier in July but Tottenham have yet to secure the transfer.
Reports from the London Evening Standard suggested that Phillips was all set for a medical with Spurs.
More than 10 days on, Spurs still don’t have Phillips on board as Blackburn hiked up their demands for a deal.
It’s now suggested that a £2million release clause can be activated from Friday onwards.
Blackburn are trying to sell Phillips for up to £9.45million as they seek hefty clauses down the line.
Tottenham have seemingly offered above the release clause in an attempt to win the race but Blackburn have yet to accept.
If Blackburn don’t sell soon, then Tottenham may well pounce on that release clause – but other clubs are lurking.

Newcastle United hovering in race for Tottenham Hotspur target Ashley Phillips
The report claims that Newcastle United are showing an interest in signing Phillips.
The Magpies have yet to put an offer on the table but they could get involved in the race this week.
Newcastle have placed a keener focus on signing young players since Dan Ashworth’s arrival at St James’ Park.

Phillips would certainly fit the bill and Newcastle have been tracking his Rovers teammate Adam Wharton, possibly putting himself on the radar.
Phillips is an impressive talent at just 18, and has already played 14 first-team games for Blackburn.
A huge presence at 6ft 4in tall, Phillips has major talent and has been hailed as an ‘amazing footballer’ by former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray.
Tottenham will hope to finally get a deal done, but will be very wary of Newcastle lurking in the background.
