Arne Slot could more than double his wages if the Feyenoord boss replaces Cristian Stellini at Premier League underachievers Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to Valentijn Driessen, a highly-respected Dutch football reporter who has seen Slot go from strength to strength in the Eredivisie, missing out on the title at AZ Alkmaar in heartbreaking circumstances but now making up for that in some style at Feyenoord.

Only once in the 21st century have the Rotterdam giants seized Dutch football’s biggest prize. Slot, however, will soon join 2017 champion Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the history books. All the while playing some of the most attractive attacking football anywhere on the continent.

According to reports, Slot – sensationally labelled the ‘best coach in the world’ by Feyenoord winger Alireza Jahanbahksh – finds himself on the radar of Leeds United, West Ham, Crystal Palace and even Chelsea.

The Independent, meanwhile, believe the 44-year-old Dutchman is now the ‘leading’ candidate to take over at Tottenham too, though Spurs’ negotiating position will not have been strengthened by Sunday’s 6-1 obliteration at the hands of Newcastle United.

“Feyenoord would like to keep him. I believe they are discussing his contract,” Driessen tells Veronica Inside.

“(Slot earns) two million euros. (His wages) will go to five million net if he goes to Spurs. Then the choice is easy, isn’t it?”

“Feyenoord can ask what they want, because there is no release clause in the contract.”

Slot held talks with Leeds United in February; turning down the Yorkshire giants in order to stay and write the final few chapters of his Feyenoord story. Last season’s UEFA Conference League runner up is also fully aware of how quickly things can change in this most fickle of games, Van Bronckhorst ending up in China just three years after guiding Feyenoord to Eredivisie glory.

“I think Leeds is a very nice club,” Slot tells ESPN. “When you still have so much to play for, I didn’t think that was a good time to leave.

“The Premier League is of course the number one competition in Europe. Although I also follow developments in Italy with great interest.

“I also think it is very valuable to leave somewhere in a positive way. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, for example, became champion here, but a year later his life no longer looked so nice.”

Tottenham are reportedly considering bringing an end to Stellini’s ill-fated interim spell following humiliating defeats to Bournemouth and Newcastle.
