According to numerous reports, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in James Garner.
The England U21 international, is reportedly up for sale, and Spurs are amongst the top admirers – with one story claiming that the north London club have even made an opening offer for the Manchester United man.
Of course, Garner may not be Tottenham’s first choice if he arrived this summer. After all, the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are already at the club, but this would be one for the future.
Indeed, at the age of just 21, Garner’s best years are ahead of him, and, in our view, Tottenham fans should be very excited by the idea of signing Garner due to the partnership he could strike up with Oliver Skipp.
Both in their early 20s, Skipp and Garner are two incredibly talented and energetic players. They already have an understanding together from their time together with the England U21 team, and with the right coaching, they could form a partnership for the ages.
Skipp has already proven his Premier League prowess with Spurs last season, and while Garner is unproven at this level, he’s been a star in the Championship for two years now, and we shouldn’t forget that Skipp himself cut his teeth at that level.
Garner, much like Skipp did with Norwich, achieved promotion with Nottingham Forest last season while being a key player, and there’s reason to believe that the ex-Forest man could follow his Spurs counterpart’s trajectory and become a Premier League star very soon.
If Tottenham unite this duo and let Antonio Conte work his magic on the young midfielders, Spurs could well have one of the best midfield pairings in England in five years’ time.
Skipp and Garner could be the next great English midfield pairing.
