Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli on a deal until 2020.
MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a deal until 2020, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Signing for a reported £5 million fee, Alli will remain with the League One side on loan for the remainder of the season, before linking up with his new club in the summer.
Aged 18, the England Under-19 international has recorded 12 goals in 27 league appearances for his hometown club this term, having earned his first-team breakthrough during the previous campaign.
His impressive performances had attracted the interested of both Newcastle United and Aston Villa in recent weeks, per the Daily Mail, but Tottenham edged ahead of their top-flight rivals during the closing stages of the transfer window to seal his signature.
Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, Mauricio Pochettino’s lone winter signing said: “It’s a massive club and I’m really happy to be here.
Making his MK Dons debut at just 16, Alli has been compared to Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard in recent months, thanks to his all-round game and goalscoring talents.
Big things are expected of the promising midfielder and, while he will have to wait a while for his north London debut, the future looks bright given how he has taken to League One football at such a tender age.
