Tottenham Hotspur are trying to sign Denzel Dumfries and the Inter Milan star certainly impressed Martin Keown on Saturday afternoon.

90Min reported last week that Tottenham have made Dumfries a key target for 2023.

It was suggested that Tottenham had even gone as far as making contact with Inter Milan to try and thrash out an agreement.

Inter may prefer a cash deal that sees Dumfries return to them on loan until the summer, and Spurs may well be tempted to get him secured for next season.

Chelsea are also interested in Dumfries though and Tottenham will face a major battle if they want to secure his signature.

Martin Keown hails Tottenham target Dumfries

Tottenham, Chelsea and many more were given a great display of Dumfries and his attacking quality on Saturday.

Dumfries featured for the Netherlands as they faced the United States in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Dumfries was a menace in the first half, collecting two assists as he set up goals for Memphis Depay and Daley Blind.

As if that wasn’t enough attacking output for Dumfries, he then sealed a Netherlands by scoring their third in a 3-1 win.

Completely unmarked at the back post, Dumfries fired home from six yards out to send the Netherlands through.

This is the kind of attacking play Tottenham want from their wing backs and pundit Martin Keown was very impressed.

Speaking on BBC Sport, Keown suggested that Dumfries was showing real quality with his end product going forward.

Tottenham have seen Emerson Royal struggle with that side of the game as a wing back and that may be why they are so keen on Dumfries.

Keown added that Dumfries has shown his quality as a full back and as a wing back, hailing the Dutch star for a ‘very good’ performance against USA.

“Very good on that side, he’s playing as a wing back and in those forwards positions, he’s really picked out quality passes for both goals,” said Keown.

“That’s what you want from a wing back, I think he’s mostly played as a full back but he still has the quality in the final third,” he added.
