Tottenham linked Mateo Kovacic is winning the trust of Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked in recent weeks with Real Madrid attacker Mateo Kovacic.

Spanish newspaper AS reported in July that they had an offer of £22 million rejected for the Croatian.

Kovacic was speculated as a player considered expendable at the right price, especially with the Spanish champions wanting to raise cash to try and sign Kylian Mbappe.

But their chances of tempting Real into a deal are fading.

Marca report that Kovacic’s impressive pre-season performances have earned the trust of manager Zinedine Zidane, and he could play a prominent role this season.

He scored and starred in a pre-season victory over Barcelona and despite the recent signing of Dani Ceballas, Real prefer to keep him around.

The report stated that Kovacic himself was considering an exit from Real but he is being swayed into staying put.

Tottenham are yet to make any signings this summer and have been seeing potential additions fall by the wayside in recent months.

Wilfried Zaha, Bruma, Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi, and Cengiz Under are among the players linked with Spurs who have moved elsewhere or signed contract extensions, and Kovacic may also now prove too difficult to sign.
