David Moyes is the new manager of West Ham… but did you know Tottenham twice considered hiring him?

West Ham appointed David Moyes as their new manager yesterday as they decided that he was the best possible option to replace Slaven Bilic mid-season.
The Scot is a manager with a point to prove after poor results at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland in his post-Everton career.
Perhaps it could have turned out differently if he had taken the job at Tottenham Hotspur which he was twice considered for by chairman Daniel Levy.

The Guardian reported in 2012 that Spurs considered trying to lure Moyes from Everton as they weighed up Harry Redknapp’s future – only to later end up going for Andre Villas-Boas instead.
Two years later in 2014 after Tim Sherwood’s spell in charge was cut abruptly short, Moyes’ name came up again, with the Scot sacked by Manchester United just weeks earlier.

No progress was made and Tottenham made the excellent decision a month later to appoint Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino instead, who has helped take the club to new heights.
Moyes’ struggles since then suggests Tottenham have had a lucky escape.
Now it is their rivals West Ham taking a gamble, in the hope that Moyes has learned from his errors and can go on and recapture the success he enjoyed at Everton earlier in his career.
