Pundit Jamie Carragher has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the top four this season, pipping Arsenal to a Champions League spot.
After Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Carragher and Neville looked back on their pre-season predictions.
Neither of them backed Tottenham for the top four then, and you can understand that.
The Nuno Espirito Santo era seemed doomed from the start and he was gone by November with Antonio Conte coming in.
Conte has worked wonders already, taking 14 points from a possible 18 as Tottenham boss.
The Italian has a proven winner and his early record at Tottenham will give fans real hope of success moving forward.
Tottenham have been so impressive under Conte that Carragher is now backing them for the top four.
Carragher backed Manchester City to win the title, with Tottenham joining Liverpool and Chelsea in the top four too.
Despite Arsenal’s strong form of late, Carragher ultimately thinks Tottenham will finish above them.
Neville did offer a caveat though, suggesting that Tottenham’s form will dip once they have to play more away games.
Trips to Burnley, Brighton and Leicester have been postponed of late, meaning Tottenham haven’t played a Premier League away game since the 7th of November.
Neville seemingly feels that Tottenham will find things more difficult when they’re on the road more, even if he loves Conte.
“Tottenham have had six games under Antonio Conte, he’s done brilliantly, don’t get me wrong, I loved their performance against Liverpool, but they’ve had five at home and only one away. When that balances out a little bit, you’ll see a change to that,” said Neville.
