Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris admits he has been frustrated with his team’s performances in European competitions.
Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has admitted that he has been frustrated by Tottenham’s short comings in European competitions since his arrival from Lyon.
The France international, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with Lyon back in 2010 speaking to the Independent said, “It’s been five seasons now that I’m with Spurs and I’ve got a little bit frustrated about Europe”.

“We’ve got the talent to go further than we’ve done. Even in the Champions League – the highest level possible – we have the potential to reach another level. Hopefully this season we can prove our real value against the best teams in Europe and go as far as possible, even if the first target is to get out of the group stage”, he continued.
“I think we have been able to get such great performances in the Premier League and we just need to repeat that in the Champions League. Hopefully, that will happen this year”, the French shot-stopper concluded.
Spurs despite their upturn in performances in the Premier League have been exposed in Europe far too many times. Last year, the London club were eliminated during the group stages of the Champions League and lost in the last-32 stage of the Europa League to Gent.
There is no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino has one of the best first teams in the Premier League (if not the best) at his disposal, and short comings in this season’s competition would indeed be a surprise given their general form in the last couple of years.
In the long term, it is very important for the London side to do well in Europe if they aim to keep the prodigious talents on their books. For a top side, European competency is a major yardstick.
If the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid or any other top European club do come calling for the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane in the future; their eventual decisions may to a certain extent be dependent on the club’s European escapades.
