The Porto midfielder would be a useful addition for Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be desperate to bolster his ranks at Tottenham this summer, in an effort to make his team more competitive in the race for the Premier League title next season.

The problem for the Argentine, however, is that he probably wont be given lavish funds to spend in order to strengthen his Spurs squad, so he will most likely have to be thrifty in his player recruitment.

One area in particular where Pochettino will want to address is his central midfield department, having sold Mousa Dembele in January, and Victor Wanyama facing an uncertain future at the club.

And with this in mind, Tottenham should consider making a move for Porto ace Hector Herrera, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old doesn’t fit the profile of players who Pochettino usually tries to sign, given his age, but at the moment, he is exactly the kind of player Spurs need.

Vastly experienced and technically gifted, Herrera wold provide Pochettino with something that he does not currently possess.

He is also a combative midfielder, and seems to be ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

With 70 international caps for Mexico to his name, the 29-year-old has proven quality, and his availability on a free transfer makes signing him this summer a complete no-brainer for Tottenham.

He might not be one for the future for Spurs, but for the here and now, he’d be perfect for them.
