Borussia Monchengladbach could sell Nico Elvedi for just £9 million in a move which may catch the eye of Premier League duo West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Well, the Switzerland international cannot say he wasn’t warned.
Over the weekend, Gladbach director Roland Virkus admitted that – if Nico Elvedi did not extend his contract beyond the summer of 2024 – that he’d face being sold over the coming months.
“We are in talks with both players (Elvedi and Florian Neuhaus) and hope that they will make a clear and consistent commitment to Borussia and our path this summer,” Virkus tells BILD.
“If that doesn’t happen, we will have to find a solution in view of the contract situation.”

Now, with Sky Germany reporting that Elvedi has turned down the offer of a new deal, a parting of the ways appears to be the inevitable result.
Nico Elvedi an option for Tottenham and West Ham
According to SportItalia in April, the 26-year-old centre-half has admirers at both Roma and Tottenham. With the former beating the latter to Evan Ndicka – a deal for the Eintracht Frankfurt ace agreed – this could leave the door wide open for Spurs to focus on Elvedi instead.
West Ham, meanwhile, made an offer for the former FC Zurich man last summer (Blick). Presuming Elvedi is still on the radar, the Conference League champions may look to pick up where they left off with a rumoured £9 million price-tag making Elvedi a damn sight cheaper than, say, Wolves’ Max Kilman or Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.

Elvedi, a right-sided centre-half, would fit in nicely under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs. He is an excellent distributor – completing 91 per cent of his Bundesliga passes in 2022/23 (WhoScored) – and would potentially represent an upgrade on the unconvincing Eric Dier and the error-prone Davinson Sanchez.
Of all the centre-halves at Spurs’ disposal, arguably only Cristian Romero – the Argentine boasting a confidence almost bordering on self-defeating arrogance – possesses the passing range Postecoglou looks for in a defender.
The Bundesliga website even compares Elvedi to Manchester City treble-winner John Stones.
