Valencia want Bryan Gil and Gennaro Gattuso believes a deal is ’99% done’ – but Tottenham Hotspur are trying to sign a replacement first.

Tottenham got most of their summer transfer business done early but things have been a little quiet in recent weeks.

Fabio Paratici still needs to bring in new signings though and Tottenham could be busy in the final days of the transfer window.

A winger seems to be the priority for Tottenham, especially as it looks like Bryan Gil is leaving the club in the coming days.

Valencia want Bryan Gil

Valencia are keen to re-sign winger Gil having taken him on loan for the second half of last season.

The Spaniard only joined Tottenham last season, arriving in a deal that saw Spurs send Erik Lamela and cash to Sevilla.

Gil didn’t really make an impact for Spurs last season though, failing to start a single Premier League game before returning to Spain with Valencia.

The 21-year-old needs first-team football and it just isn’t going to come at Tottenham, so a loan move seems imminent.

Valencia boss Gattuso has now told the club’s official website that a deal for Gil is ’99% done’.

However, Valencia are waiting for Tottenham to sign off on the deal because they want to sign a replacement before allowing Gil to leave.

“Bryan is not our player. We have closed our part of the deal, but we are waiting on Tottenham,” said Gattuso. “They have told us that it is 99% there, but that they have to wait to confirm other players,” he added.

That Gattuso has said that a deal is 99% done will leave Tottenham fans firmly believing that a new winger is very close to arriving.

Reports last week suggested that Tottenham are keen on signing Leeds United winger Daniel James.

James would bring serious pace to the Tottenham side as well as the work rate Antonio Conte wants, but his end product remains inconsistent.

Maybe Paratici has another ace up his sleeve, but we would suggest that James is the most likely addition to the Tottenham squad right now as they chase another wide man.
