Bryan Gil frustrated Antonio Conte on Tuesday night with the Tottenham Hotspur winger too easily pushed off the ball against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Tottenham headed off to Germany on Tuesday with Champions League points up for grabs.
After losing 2-0 to Sporting in their last Champions League game, Tottenham really needed to impress in Frankfurt – especially after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Tottenham were largely improved but still lack a cutting edge in attack and could only take a 0-0 draw back to London with them.
Bryan Gil frustrated Antonio Conte
Tottenham really missed Dejan Kulusevski’s guile in the final third and the lack of options on the bench was telling for Conte and co.
Seeking an attacking change, Conte could only really turn to winger Bryan Gil.
The Spaniard is technically very good and works incredibly hard but he is very slight and doesn’t seem to be physically ready for Premier League action.
It’s largely the same in Champions League action too as Gil was too easily pushed off the ball on a couple of occasions.
Football London now claim that Conte was seen screaming at Gil from the touchline having given up possession too easily.
Conte was punching his fit into his palm to try and tell Gil to be tougher in the tackle, and when Gil ‘seemed confused’, Conte simply repeated that gesture.
It’s clear that Gil just isn’t robust enough right now and he must bulk up if he is to make himself a success in the Premier League and at Tottenham.
Conte needs robust players and if Gil isn’t at that level yet, then it’s hard to see him earning major first-team minutes at Tottenham.
Another loan move away in January may be the way to go for Gil, but Tottenham may need to bring in another attacking signing in order to make that happen.
The 21-year-old has so much talent but he’s just too lightweight at the moment, and it feels like Conte absolutely knows it.
