Tottenham Hotspur are set to allow Erik Lamela to leave the club – and that means Bryan Gil is heading to North London.

This one came from absolutely nowhere.

On Tuesday afternoon, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Tottenham have struck a deal with Sevilla that will see Lamela and Gil switch clubs.

Tottenham are also paying £21.5million to make the deal happen, with Lamela heading off to Spain and Gil now North London bound.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Eibar and only has 21 appearances for Sevilla to his name, so he isn’t exactly a big name for Tottenham fans to get excited about.

Gil is though an exciting young talent with silky dribbling and a great left foot, and the comparisons thrown his way speak of a player with a huge future ahead.

The boldest comparison came from Marca in March, as they called Gil ‘little Cruyff’.

Dutch midfielder Johann Cruyff dribbles past Argentinian goalkeeper Daniel Carnevali on his way to scoring a goal during the World Cup quarterfinal soccer match between the Netherlands and Argentina on June, 26, 1974 in Gelsenkirchen. Marca noted that it wasn’t just Gil’s hair that sparked that comparison, but also ‘the way he moves on the pitch’, raving about his ability to dribble past defenders.

If Gil can get even close to the kind of legacy the late, great Cruyff had, then he will have achieved a lot.

A slightly more realistic comparison has emerged from The Mirror, as they compare Gil to Jack Grealish, again thanks to that dribbling ability.

GIl isn’t a big name addition for Tottenham, but with comparisons like these, you can see why Fabio Paratici is striking this deal.
