Jose Mourinho has rubbished the idea that he doesn’t believe Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso can play together in the same Tottenham Hotspur side.
In the Premier League, it’s at a stage where if Mourinho is taking off Ndombele, it’s almost certainly going to be for the Argentine midfielder.
It’s so rare that the Tottenham boss uses them both and has only happened on a handful of occasions this season – all in the Europa League.
But Mourinho has told Football London that it really isn’t hard to pick between Ndombele or Lo Celso to start the trip to Liverpool tomorrow, insisting that he will pair them together eventually.
He said: “It’s not difficult. Difficult is when you don’t have any one of them. Can they play together? Yes. The physical condition for both is very important.
“To play with the two together, we need them to be fit and play with the right intensity. And they will. I’m not saying tomorrow or Sunday or next week but they will play together.”
Whichever one plays tomorrow, it’s vital that he has a good game.
Tottenham are above Liverpool on goal difference and a win would take them three points clear at the Premier League’s summit.
There’s a question mark right now over whether the Lilywhites can last the distance, but winning at Anfield would silence the doubters to some extent.
