Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters during his post-match press conference, and shared his novel idea to give Harry Kane more space and freedom, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

Tottenham were magnificent against Real Madrid last night, and left the Bernabeu with a valuable point, after taking the game to the European champions.

Pochettino sprung a surprise before the game started by including summer signing Fernando Llorente in his starting XI, and implementing a 4-4-2 formation.

And the Argentine told reporters how Llorente’s inclusion was all part of a plan to provide more freedom for the in-form Kane, as quoted by Football.London:

“This was the idea to give more freedom for Harry to establish this structure. He joined us on September 1. He has trained very hard and very well over the international break. Today was an important game to have his experience. He is a world champion and he has a great understanding with the rest of his team-mates. He had a great performance and we are happy. The way we competed was very good.”

Despite the fact that the Spaniard is still yet to open his goalscoring account at Spurs, he more than proved his worth for the team last night, holding up the ball with aplomb, and creating pockets of space for his teammates.

And if the former Juventus and Athletic Bilbao man’s inclusion in the Tottenham line-up does in fact make Kane an even better player, then Pochettino will be faced with a selection dilemma during the remainder of the campaign.
