It is time for Tottenham to give promising striker Kazaiah Sterling a proper chance.
Fernando Llorente has surely reached crisis point in his Tottenham career after yet another blank.
He has now failed to score in three consecutive games against lower league opposition and looks bereft of confidence.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino can keep on picking him, but at this point it appears to be doing more harm than good to both Llorente and the team.
Now is surely time for Pochettino to say enough is enough and relegate the Spaniard to third choice at the club.
Promising teenager Kazaiah Sterling struck twice for the under-23s in a 2-2 draw on Friday night and the England youth international is building a solid case for inclusion.
The 19-year-old made his Tottenham debut earlier in the season as a late substitute and his goalscoring feats for the under-23s mean that unlike Llorente, he actually has confidence right now.
Spurs have an opportunity to rotate their side again in the FA Cup replay against Rochdale and this should be the moment they select Sterling ahead of Llorente.
Now Tottenham may prefer to start first choice striker Harry Kane as they are just one game away from the quarter-final stage, and realise it is time to stop messing about with team selection, but this will depend on the England international’s fitness.
Even if Kane starts in this match, Sterling should be the first option off the bench if indeed Spurs can get up to an early lead, ahead of giving Llorente another run out.
Kane got his chance for Spurs when the likes of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor were flopping.
Now is the chance for them to try and repeat history by giving another potentially prolific young talent an opportunity instead of trotting Llorente out for another fruitless performance.
