Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has admitted to Football London that he was caught by surprise by Ben Davies during the North London derby.
Davies had a memorable moment in the match, when he took aim from distanced and unleashed a powerful drive, which hit the bar.
Had the shot gone in, it may well have won Tottenham’s goal of the season competition.
And Mourinho admits that he was shocked to see such an effort come from Davies, who isn’t the most naturally attacking of full-backs.
“I have to admit a little bit of a surprise for me,” Mourinho said.
“I wouldn’t feel that Ben is this kind of left winger, left wing-back or full-back who strikes the ball so, so, so well. What I love in him is that I always know how he’s going to perform. He’s so stable, so compact that I really like to have that feeling.
“He goes forward well and a good crosser of the ball and that shot could have been the goal of his career.”
Davies is one of the Tottenham players who definitely seems to have benefited from Mourinho’s arrival.

The former Swansea City man has been picked regularly by the Portuguese boss and his role in the side seems to suit him.
Mourinho tasks Davies with being a defensive full-back, as he allows Serge Aurier to bomb forward down the other flank, and he seems to have thrived in the role so far.
Davies will surely start for Tottenham again this evening, when they take on Newcastle United.
