One of the big transfer target heading into transfer deadline day for Tottenham Hotspur concerned the potential signing of Isco.

The attacking midfielder had been rumoured to be available from Real Madrid on a season long loan, and Spanish newspaper AS reported that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino had held talks with Isco in attempts to try and convince Isco to sign with the club.

As deadline day went on, it became clear Isco was staying at Real, while Tottenham’s attentions were focused on signing Moussa Sissoko instead.

Pochettino was quizzed about Isco at his weekly press conference on Thursday, and played down the chase.

At his presser, recorded by Press Bureau TV, Pochettino said: “No, it was just a rumour, I think no (it was not close).”

He was also asked about the delay in signing Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, with the winger signed on deadline day, five weeks after an agreement was first reached with Marseille.

Pochettino said: “Football is not only a football decision, you need to sign the contract, agree with a different club, competitors want to sign players too, sometimes it is difficult. In end it was good, we have the player.”

N’Koudou is an exciting talent who lit up Ligue 1 last season, and Tottenham will hope the wait was worth it and he can show why they were so determined to get it over the line.
