Everton and Tottenham Hotspur shared the spoils in the Premier League on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino has praised Everton’s Seamus Coleman for coming into Tottenham’s dressing room to console Heung-Min Son after Andre Gomes suffered a horror leg break on Sunday.
In the second half of Everton’s 1-1 draw with Spurs, TV replays suggested that Gomes suffered his injury after Son’s tackle and before he collided with Serge Aurier, as reported by BBC Sport.
When the players had realised what had happened, everyone was distraught about the situation, with Son reduced to tears before he left the pitch – referee Martin Atkinson sent him off for the incident.
After the game, Spurs boss Pochettino sent his ‘best wishes’ to Gomes and paid tribute to Coleman, who came into the Spurs away dressing room after the game to ensure Son was okay.
“We feel very sorry. It’s a very bad situation,” said Pochettino, as quoted by The Mirror. “It’s very bad luck how he landed. We can only send our best wishes to him. It’s not about football, it’s important that he is okay. We feel devastated, it was so, so difficult.
“Son is devastated. He was very confused. It was difficult to keep him calm. It was not intentional. It was so, so bad luck. I want to thank the captain, Seamus Coleman – he came into the dressing room to console Son.”
It was a bad moment for all concerned as everyone will now be hoping that Gomes makes a full recovery, as he has been a key figure for Marco Silva’s side in the middle of the park this season.
After spending last season at Goodison Park on loan, Gomes made the switch to Merseyside permanent in the summer, which no doubt pleased the Everton faithful.
After Gomes’ injury, Everton went onto to equalise for their teammate, with Cenk Tosun netting the headed goal just before the end.
