Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed via The Standard that Vincent Janssen’s gritty nature is “unbelievable”.

The 22-year-old, a £17 million signing from AZ Alkmaar this summer, impressed in his home debut for the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He did not score, but the Dutch striker gave a very good account of himself as the focal point of Tottenham’s attack in favour of Harry Kane, who started a little deeper.

Pochettino has now praised the centre-forward for his appetite and admits that he expects big things from the Netherlands international throughout the course of his Spurs career.

“The way Vincent fights and works for the team is unbelievable, one of his best skills,” he told Spurs’ official site, via The Standard.

“Our supporters are very happy with his performance and we’re happy as well. He’s a great, great player and great man as well and he’s only 21, only young and he can improve a lot.

“Our expectations are big but it’s step by step because it’s his first season here in England and you have to give him time to work.”

Janssen is rapidly becoming a fan favourite with Spurs. He made his debut in the 1-1 draw at Everton in the opening game of the season, and would have marked the occassion with a goal if not for Maarten Stekelenburg’s fine save.

Still, Tottenham fans certainly appear to be warming to him. Supporters love passion and commitment above all else, and Janssen appears to have both in spades.
