Hugo Lloris bounced back from his mini slump for Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
Speaking to Football London, Mauricio Pochettino has praised Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for reminding his critics of his ability on Wednesday.
Spurs edged out Newcastle 1-0 to seal Champions League qualification, but Lloris was a major factor in Pochettino’s side picking up all three points at Wembley.
The French goalkeeper denied Jamaal Lascelles’s header in the first half with a fantastic save, before his inch-perfect slide tackle on Matt Ritchie after the break thwarted the Magpies yet again.
Lloris has come in for some criticism over the past month or so, but Pochettino’s message to the 31-year-old’s critics couldn’t be any clearer.
He told Football London: “If someone criticise Hugo…it is better to go home. Because he is one of the best in the world, but in that business you need to accept of course.”
Lloris is indeed a very fine goalkeeper, and mistakes for a goalkeeper aren’t only par for the course, but they perhaps attract more negative attention and knee-jerk assessments are often made.
The former Lyon man, a £12 million signing in 2012 under Andre Villas-Boas [Goal.com], was slammed by Tottenham fans on Twitter for an error at Stoke City last month, in spite of the fact that he had barely put a foot wrong this season prior to that.
