The Napoli ace was a reported transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur back in 2015.

When speaking to Spanish radio station CRC, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino shared his admiration for Napoli ace Jose Callejon, opening up on how he has followed the Spain international’s progress, as quoted by Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato.

The 31-year-old joined Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, and has since gone on to establish himself as a firm fan favourite in Naples, racking up 72 goals and 58 assists in 245 appearances in the process.

For someone who operates predominantly as a right winger, those are really impressive numbers.

Spurs have been long-term admirers of Callejon, and were weighing up a £12 million swoop for the forward way back in the summer of 2015, according to the Daily Star.

Whether Tottenham would still be interested in the Spaniard two-and-a-half years later is debatable, but Pochettino did admit that he still follows the Napoli man’s progress, when speaking to Radio CRC, and quoted via Calcio Mercato:

“I followed Callejon from Spain. I feel connected to him.”

The Argentine will be looking to strengthen his squad further still in the summer, and following his words on Callejon, it would be no surprise to see Spurs make a move for the Napoli ace before the start of the new season.
