The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back will not return until February at the earliest.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s clash against Brighton and Hove Albion this week, with his comments published on Football.London.
Among the topics up for discussion was Toby Alderweireld’s injury absence and the ongoing questions regarding his contract situation.
While many of Tottenham’s first-team stars have committed to the club for the long term, Alderweireld’s deal expires in 2020, and that has prompted a few rumours to begin circulating about the Belgian international’s future.
The simple fact is, Tottenham still have the player tied down for some time to come, and Pochettino was quick to mention that.
“Of course, it’s his decision, it’s our decision,” Pochettino said. “We are looking forward to playing with him and him staying here with us.”
that suggests the player will put pen to paper on a new deal in due course, but only time will tell, with the main focus on his recovery from injury right now.
“We cannot change the reality of his injury,” the Tottenham boss added. “With him or without him we win or lose. You are always going to miss players, but it’s collective.”
In Alderweireld’s absence Tottenham have struggled for consistency, although their recent 5-1 victory against Stoke City suggested there are better things to come as they head into the festive fixtures.
