Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has suggested to Football.London that talks with Son Heung-min over a new contract have stopped.
Mourinho has said that there is no problem regarding Son and his future at Tottenham, adding that the South Korea international forward has a long contract at the club.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has suggested that it is due to the global health pandemic that talks with the 28-year-old have been shelved.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Son is under contract at Spurs until the summer of 2023.
Mourinho told Football.London when asked for news on Son’s new contract: “Son is not a problem, he has a contract still for a couple of years if I’m not wrong, maybe even three. I believe, just to wait for the right moment to do it.
“Probably this situation with the world where we are, the Covid situation, I don’t think it’s the right moment for players and clubs to discuss contracts with so many people losing jobs and not working and difficulties.
“I believe that when the sun shines again for the world, I believe the club and Sonny they are going to arrive quite easily to a conclusion.”
Important player for Tottenham Hotspur
Son has developed into a big player for Tottenham and is now one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet.
The 28-year-old is scoring goals and creating chances, and he seems to be enjoying playing for Spurs.
According to WhoScored, the South Korea international has scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 22 Premier League games for Spurs so far this season.
Son has also made one start and four substitute appearances in the Europa League for Tottenham this campaign, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
