Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a tricky move for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, The Mail reports.

Chambers has been on loan at Middlesbrough this season and has enjoyed a solid campaign, benefitting from playing regular football.

He has been at Arsenal since 2014, when he signed from Southampton.

At Southampton he worked under current Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who helped bring him through into the first team.

The pair even shared one of Pochettino’s famous contract handshakes in 2013, when the young centre-back penned a new deal with the Saints. [picture viewable on Southampton’s website].

Pochettino said at the time: “Calum has shown in his performances in pre-season that he is more than capable of performing at this level, and we hope that this commitment allows him to push on and thrive within the first team environment.”

Chambers is just 22-years-old, and has three England senior caps under his belt. He made 22 Premier League appearances at Southampton after penning his new contract.

If not for Pochettino’s departure, Arsenal may not have been so lucky to snap him up. Just 12 months after signing his deal, Chambers was also gone.

His spell at Arsenal has been mixed, and while a move will be very difficult to accomplish, if any boss can tempt Chambers into a controversial transfer, it is Pochettino.
