Football London say Antonio Conte made a ‘late’ request to take his Tottenham squad on a warm-weather training trip during the World Cup break – but the Spurs board have been unable to grant him his wish. They will remain in England.
Spurs finished on a high on Saturday afternoon. Coming from behind three times, Conte watched on as his side won 4-3. Rodrigo Bentancur scored two late goals in the space of two minutes as Spurs secured three points in the Capital.
The win sees Spurs go into the break in the top four, qualifying for the knockout rounds of the World Cup. Now, many of Tottenham’s squad will be in Qatar. Indeed, 11 of Conte’s current side will go, from Harry Kane to Pape Matar Sarr.
Of the remaining players, which includes the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, Clement Lenglet and more, will remain at Hotspur Way. That is despite manager Conte asking the Spurs board to arrange warm-weather training trip.
Plenty of Premier League clubs are going to the Middle East, to allow their World Cup players to return in similar condition. But Conte’s request was late. The board have been unable to find anywhere with facilities like Hotspur Way.
Tottenham board unable to grant Conte wish during World Cup break
It will hardly affect Spurs given so many of their players will basically be undergoing warm-weather training in Qatar. But in terms of first XI players, there are many that will simply continue their training at Hotspur Way during the break.
The Spurs players will be given a break. Conte himself is returning to Italy, having missed his daughter’s 15th birthday. Spurs return after the World Cup break on Boxing Day, going across London to take on Brentford. Then, Aston Villa.
