Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur are now battling Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal for Houssem Aouar, according to Le10Sport.
What’s the story?
Le10Sport are reporting this evening that Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race for Lyon midfielder Aouar.
Arsenal have already made an offer close to €20 million (£17.11m) for the midfielder, but Lyon value the 23-year-old at between €20 (£17.11) and €25 million (£21.39m).
Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the France international midfielder.
The report in the French news outlet has added that discussions are going on in regard to a Tottenham transfer.
Spurs are also willing to pay what Lyon want for the midfielder, described as “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on BBC Sport in November 2018.
Arsenal need to step up
If Arsenal want to sign Aouar this summer, then they need to increase their bid.
Because, as we have discussed above, Tottenham clearly are ready to pay what it takes to bring the France international to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Both Arsenal and Spurs are big clubs and are global brands, but neither will play in the Champions League or the Europa League next season.
It will be very interesting to see if Arsenal make a new bid, and which club Aouar would prefer.
PSG will play in the Champions League next season and will be determined to reclaim the Ligue 1 title as well.
As for Atletico, they won the La Liga title last season.
The Lyon no.8 scored seven goals and gave three assists in 23 Ligue 1 starts last season.
