Tottenham Hotspur lost Armando Broja to Chelsea as a kid – and it turns out his love for Didier Drogba was a key reason for that switch.
Tottenham have basked in the glory of having a homegrown goal machine after Harry Kane’s rise through the ranks.
There are hopes that Dane Scarlett could do the same thing in the coming years, but Tottenham may also rue losing another talented striker.
It may not be common knowledge, but Chelsea talent Armando Broja actually started out in the Tottenham ranks.
After showing promise with Burnham Juniors, Broja was wanted by a number of clubs. Reading and Fulham both had a look, but Broja joined Tottenham.
A Tottenham scout saw Broja playing with Burnham, and whilst he was there to watch one of Broja’s teammates, the now-Chelsea man stole the show.
Broja started with Tottenham at Under-9 level, but then decided to leave to join Chelsea.
It’s stated that Broja had an admiration for Didier Drogba at a young age, so decided to make the move across London to Chelsea.
When Broja was nine – around 2010 – Drogba had come off a staggering 37-goal season and had firmly made himself a Chelsea icon.
Broja has only played once for the Chelsea first team, so he has a long way to go before he can be on Drogba’s level.

There are incredibly high hopes for the Albanian though, who has already scored three goals in 10 caps for his country.
The 20-year-old is shining on loan at Southampton and actually scored against Tottenham earlier this month.
When you look at Tottenham’s striking options, using a player like Broja to support Harry Kane would actually be ideal.
It wasn’t to be though, and Broja could end up haunting Tottenham for years to come yet.
