Tottenham Hotspur have some superb players in their ranks but one who does not always get the credit he deserves – at least from outside observers – is Mousa Dembele.
The Belgian international is a beast in the centre of the park for Spurs, and his recent record when starting in the league is nothing short of extraordinary.
Tottenham are undefeated in the last 30 matches that Dembele has started in the Premier League; a record that stretches back to the first match of last season when the North London club lost 1-0 away to Manchester United.
Since then, Tottenham’s only league defeats have come when the Belgian international has not been included in the starting XI, usually through injury or suspension.
When fit and available Dembele is a vital player for Tottenham and their manager Mauricio Pochettino will be all too aware of the need to keep him as protected as possible in the months ahead.
Much has been made of the absence of Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane already this season, but Dembele may just be the most important Spurs player of them all.
