Fabrizio Romano claims Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘approached’ manager with 10 trophies

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Tottenham Hotspur have approached Ernesto Valverde to become their new manager.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has added that nothing is advanced between Tottenham and Valverde.

Romano has also suggested that Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag are still on the list of potential managerial candidates for Spurs.

Tottenham reportedly broke off talks with Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso in the last 48 or so hours.

Who is Ernesto Valverde?

Valverde is a very good and experienced manager.

The 57-year-old has been in the management business since 2002 and has been in charge of clubs such as Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol and Villarreal.

The Spaniard was most recently the manager of Barcelona.

Valverde was appointed in the role at Barcelona in the summer of 2017 and was sacked in January 2020.

The Spaniard won the La Liga title twice and the Copa del Rey once with Barcelona.

Valverde was a huge success during his managerial spell in Greece.

The former Bilbao forward won Super League Greece with Olympicos in 2009, 2011 and 2012 and the Greek Cup in 2009 and 2012.

Valverde has won a total of 10 trophies in his managerial career.

The Spaniard has also won 392 out of 734 matches he has been in charge of so far in his career.
