Tottenham Hotspur may well sack Antonio Conte but potential replacements seemingly feel a similar way to the outspoken Italian.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Conte is expected to leave his post as Tottenham manager this week.
Conte launched a stunning tirade on his own players at the weekend, accusing them of being selfish and incapable of playing under pressure.
Spurs squandered a 3-1 lead at struggling Southampton to end up drawing 3-3, sparking Conte’s rage – and his seemingly imminent exit.
Tottenham will be compiling their list of potential replacements for Conte but making an appointment won’t be easy.
It’s suggested that a number of Tottenham’s candidates actually agree with Conte and share similar concerns about the Spurs squad.
The report even claims that that some think Conte overachieved at Tottenham last season and this term is actually a better example of the quality in the squad.
Who are Tottenham looking at to replace Antonio Conte?
The report names seven managers Tottenham have on their wish list to take over from Conte.
Mauricio Pochettino is of course in the mix given his emotional connection to Tottenham, and his availability will be appealing to Spurs.
Thomas Tuchel is also wanted, with the German seeking a route back into management; appointing another ex-Chelsea manager may not go down too well though.
Luis Enrique is the third out-of-work manager Tottenham fancy, with the former Barcelona boss out of work having left his post as Spain manager following the World Cup.
All three have doubters to answer but may well fear this Tottenham squad harming their reputations.
Tottenham also have four in-work managers on their radar.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glaser, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
Those targets make sense for Tottenham given their styles of play, but they are in very good jobs and will surely only leave for the absolute right opportunity.
Conte’s comments about Tottenham seem to have support from other managers and Tottenham may now find a new appointment a little trickier than hoped.
