£52 million-rated Vanderson is attracting interest from ‘lots of big clubs’ amid links with Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, Monaco coach Philippe Clement tells Get France Football News.

If anything, Vanderson works too hard. He cares too much. As far as bad habits go, there are certainly worse ones to have.

But the 21-year-old’s recent dip in form, Clement says, is down to his seemingly insatiable desire for self-improvement. One he must curb, to some extent, if he is to avoid burn-out.

“Vanderson has been less consistent recently but he is still a young player,” says the former Club Brugge boss, who took over from Niko Kovac at the Ligue 1 giants earlier this year.

“Every day he wants to be better than the last. That can give him a lot of pressure, lots of stress with all of the ambition that he has. We need to manage that more for him. If I left him to it, he would train for 18 hours a day. He is like that.

“Sometimes, we need physical and mental breaks. He is a young player that needs to manage that. He will do it, because he has such a positive frame of mind.”

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United like Monaco’s Vanderson

Vanderson only joined Monaco in January, signing from Gremio in an £11 million deal. His price-tag is now soaring to somewhere over £50 million, with Newcastle, Manchester United and Barcelona showing an interest in the rampaging right-back (Sport).

Tottenham have also taken note of Vanderson (Onze Mondial).

“He had an exceptional adaptation here. He is also a player who is and continues to interest lots of big clubs,” Clement adds.

“That can possibly do something to the mindset. Not that he didn’t have his feet on the ground, but Vanderson is very ambitious and a huge perfectionist.”

One of the brightest talents in France’s top-flight admitted recently that he would be keen on a move to the Premier League at some point in the future. He’d surely represent an upgrade on Emerson Royal at Spurs; the much-maligned Brazilian sent off during Saturday’s 3-1 North London derby defeat to table-topping Arsenal.

“Vanderson has the quality (to play for Barcelona),” says former Gremio coach Tiago Nunes.

“I think of the comparison with (Dani) Alves, because Dani was one of the greats. Dani is a player who played on the wing, but he was also a midfielder many times. Venderson has the quality to do that, and the physical strength to attack the space.

“Because he is direct, he has a lot of strength. He scores goals, he has potential. I see the same potential as Dani Alves.”
