The decision to move the transfer deadline forward is going to be particularly helpful to Tottenham and Manchester United.

After complaints from top flight clubs, the Premier League decided to bring this summer’s transfer deadline forward.

Instead of closing at the end of the month the deadline is August 9, one day before the season kicks off.

The fixture list was released last week, and two early beneficiaries of last year’s decision appear to be Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

This is due to an early fixture between the two sides, and two ongoing transfer sagas affecting both clubs.

The Mail reported a month ago how United are keen to sign defender Toby Alderweireld, while Tottenham have the ambitious goal of signing wantaway Red Devils forward Anthony Martial.

These rumours have continued, even heightened, in the month since, with neither club in a hurry to sell.

In seasons pasts, United or Spurs would have been concerned by their August 25 fixture at Old Trafford.

If Tottenham were accepting they would have to sell to United, then it would be preferable for them to delay a move until after the game has taken place, and vice versa.

In doing so the speculation would overshadow the game, the players, and unsettle their teammates.

Now with the early transfer deadline, both United and Tottenham will know exactly where they stand come August 25.

Alderweirled and Martial’s futures will be determined, one way or another.

If they are on opposing sides having swapped, so be it, or even playing together.

But at least thanks to the Premier League changing the deadline, the situation will be resolved and won’t overshadow a match which will be so important early on for both teams.
