Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have both been credited with an interest in signing the Colombian.
According to a report from TyC Sports, Roma have made an offer to take Boca Juniors midfield ace Wilmar Barrios on loan with an option to buy for just €24 million (£21 million), so Tottenham and Everton will have to act fast, if they want to sign the Colombian.
According to the Independent, Spurs have been interested in signing the 25-year-old since the summer, whilst the Toffees have been monitoring the midfielder too, according to a report from Argentine media outlet Clarin.
The tough-tackling midfield enforcer displayed his quality during the World Cup last summer, and he seems to have all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.
Both Tottenham and Everton are in desperate need of a quality central midfielder.
Mousa Dembele has left Spurs, whilst Victor Wanyama faces an uncertain future in north London, so Barrios would be a really useful addition for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, especially for just £21 million.
Everton, meanwhile, could really do with a player like the Colombian, with Idrissa Gueye being tipped for a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Morgan Schneiderlin reportedly available for transfer this month.
Whilst Roma will undoubtedly represent real competition for Tottenham and Everton in the race for Barrios, the draw of playing in the Premier League cannot be underestimated.
The Colombian seems to be a really top-drawer player, and if Pochettino and Silva want him, they must act very fast.
