The Daily Mail reported in May of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in Luke Shaw, but the Manchester United defender’s recent comments to The Times suggest that he does not plan to leave in the summer transfer window.

Back in May, The Daily Mail credited Tottenham and Everton – as well as AS Monaco and Chelsea – with interest in the former Southampton left-back.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at United since his move from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

However, the England international left-back – who earns £70,000 per week as salary, according to The Express – has suggested that he wants to carry on playing for United and wants to earn a new contract with the Red Devils.

Shaw told The Times: “I don’t think I would want to sign a contract right now because I want to prove to people that I deserve a contract.

I don’t want a contract because maybe in the next year or so I’m a free agent, so maybe they might look to tie me down for that. I want to sign a contract because I deserve it and the club want me to sign one.”

Good decision from Luke Shaw?

Both Tottenham and Everton are big and ambitious clubs, but leaving United for Spurs or the Toffees wold be a step down for Shaw.

Although the left-back will have to fight for his place in the United stating lineup next season, he is at one of the world’s biggest clubs, and such a chance does not come for everyone.
