Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Everton’s Michael Keane.
With question marks still hanging over the future of Toby Alderweireld’s future, Tottenham Hotspur look set to move for a new central defender this summer.
The Belgian is widely expected to leave thanks to a release clause in his deal, and as a key part of the Spurs defence, he must be replaced – even with Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth already at the club.
Spurs have subsequently been linked with a host of central defenders ahead of the summer transfer window, and some fans may be surprised at the latest name linked.
The Daily Mail report that Spurs have been scouting Everton’s Michael Keane ahead of a potential summer move, with Arsenal also interested.
Everton would allegedly want around £50million for Keane, which is a full £20million more than the fee paid by the Toffees for the centre back in 2017.
Keane had starred with Burnley, but struggled in his first season with Everton, dropping out of the side before the Toffees went and signed two more centre backs in Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma.
Keane has returned to form this season though, reclaiming a spot in the England squad as a result, but Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that Keane would be a serious downgrade on Alderweireld and is too slow, adding that a move would be ‘grim’ and a lack of ambition.
Everton fans have praised Keane, but feel that £50million would be far too good to turn down, believing Marcel Brands would be a genius if he pulled off such a deal, even if many want the defender to stay.
