Toby Alderweireld may have been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but the Tottenham Hotspur defender is not letting speculation affect him, according to comments in The Mirror.

According to The Mirror, United are interested in signing Alderweireld from Premier League rivals Tottenham this summer.

It has been reported that talks between the two clubs over the transfer of the Belgium international have started, although one suspects that there will be no deal done until after the World Cup.

Alderweireld, who earns £75,000 per week as salary as reported by The Daily Star, is part of the Belgium squad for the World Cup in Russia, and the 29-year-old centre-back will play an important role for his team, and he does not seem to be bothered about speculation on his future.

“It’s a dream come true to play for Belgium at a World Cup. So I am focused on the World Cup, that’s all. There is nothing else on mind.”

Alderweireld’s aforementioned comments underline his maturity, and show that he is able to handle speculation on his future without it affecting his game.

This certainly bodes well for Belgium, for whom the former Atletico Madrid central defender will be an important player in Russia.
